The Journey Into Minimalism: Why I Became a Haiku Poet

My journey into the world of haiku poetry was not an accidental detour; it was a conscious awakening to a different way of seeing, feeling, and existing in the world. In a modern landscape dominated by constant noise, information overload, and endless explanations, I found myself deeply yearning for stillness and clarity. Long-form prose and elaborate poetry certainly have their virtues, but I discovered that excessive words can sometimes dilute the raw emotional truth of a moment. Haiku, with its strict economy of words, offered me an escape from the clutter. It taught me the profound art of restraint—the idea that a poet can evoke a universe of feelings by speaking just a few, carefully chosen words. At its core, writing haiku became my way of practicing mindfulness. The structure forces a writer to slow down, anchor themselves in the present, and truly observe. Before I began writing haiku, I would look at the world, but I rarely saw it. THE POETIC PICS

13 Years Did they pass so easily,  Those thirteen years? In the mere blink of two eyes,  And yet, The days of wearing uniforms  And taking small, youthful steps, The pure, innocent laughter  Free of resentment, The books we carried  Without ever thinking them a burden, Friends undivided  By who was boy or girl, The first love that dissolved  Like air into the air, The teachers who taught us  To distinguish right from wrong, The compound walls we leapt over  Like tailless monkeys, The cane-strokes received from the principal  Because of those very leaps, The Ordinary Level exams  Passed without studying, The Advanced Level subjects chosen  With such strong conviction, And as a conclusion to it all,  The final day's farewell, With the Advanced Level exam,  This chapter has come to an end....                           ...

MY FIRST POETIC JOURNEY

Welcome to The Lover of Lines . I am a first-year undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts & Culture at Eastern University, Sri Lanka Beyond my academic focus on educational theory and history, I have a profound love for literature—especially the timeless beauty of poetry. From the ancient classical stanzas of Sangam literature to modern free verse, I am fascinated by how a single line of poetry can capture the entire depth of human emotion. I created this blog as a sanctuary for poetry lovers, a place to share my favourite verses, original reflections, and the beautiful lines that connect us all.
